Why Blatantly Brazen and Judgmental? I am finding myself in a challenging and precarious position of an outsider, a foreigner who has strong opinions and happens to be judgmental. I value outside the box thinking and love the fact that America is a perfect place to voice that out. Yet, as in every place on Earth, a stranger and an opinionated one is at risk of being scrutinized. However, I do enjoy throwing my ideas out into a cyberspace and creating a stir, perhaps having some humble influence on someone. Actually, just a pure process of writing and seeing my thoughts taking shape is very satisfying.
I took a really long break from blogging as I was feeling burnt out and out of ideas for a while but now I am coming back ready to write again.
Today I was watching a commercial on TV that was promoting a Back to School Sale. I was inspired to take a look only to see that apparently every child needs to wear only jeans and sneakers to school. That made me thinking, how comes? In my opinion jeans is not a very comfortable piece of clothing, actually it is quite the opposite. I do own one pair of jeans but don’t wear it ever. It seems to me to constricting and tight. My daughters prefer the softness of a stretchy cotton and never can be seen wearing the famous and all-American icon of clothing. I don’t regret it. I feel like I let my body decide what feels right and no matter how many people are trying to convince me that jeans is a synonym of COMFORT I won’t budge.
Another thing about that commercial was that it seemed or was implied that all of us who are going Back to School need a completely new set of all the accessories to have a fresh start. Naturally, the company wants to sell as much of their product as they can, I know this and can’t blame them for using that trick. But, how many of parents actually buy into it and purchase an entirely new backpack, pencil case, new crayons and many other things that their kids still own albeit in a slightly used condition. Some of these are simply trashed and replaced with new, some are donated. I am always appalled by the unnecessary wastefulness such kind of thinking is perpetuating.
