“Intuitive Unschooling” © M. Mraovic 2012
“What a great book! A “must read” for anyone wanting to take responsibility for the education of their children.
Monika Mraovic, author of Intuitive Unschooling, writes in a delightfully personal style. Intuitive Unschooling reads more like a memoir than a how-to-do-it treatise on the topic. You feel you are there with her as she relates her experiences in raising and educating her two very different daughters. She elaborates clearly on her reasons for not sending her daughters to public schools:1. Child Safety 2. Nurturing their curiosity and talents 3. The poor quality of public school education 4. Giving them the best education 5. Teaching them how to be successful 6. Enjoying them – and spending more time with them. She suggests that for best results a parent must do the following: 1. Choose subjects of interest. 2. Go at the child’s pace, which is the definition of unschooling (child-led education). 3. Utilize their preferred style of learning. There is so much more that makes this a definitive read on unschooling. She shares honestly on the problems of following this form of education and what she did to solve them. Her section on the use of deschooling – backing off once in a while to give the child time away from schooling is excellent. I found her use of links to various information within the text to be especially helpful. I hope this review tweaks your interest in reading Monica Mraovic’s book. There is good information in it whether you presently send your children to public school, are a Home Schooler, or Unschooler. I congratulate her on a first book that reads like it is written by a seasoned professional”.
