Kutia is a traditional dish served during Christmas Eve supper, one out of twelve. I make it with cooked wheat berries, chopped walnuts and honey. I actually didn’t like it at all when I was a child and it wasn’t a part of Christmas in my family. Only recently I discovered how good it is when my husband prepared it for us and since then I love it.
Essentially, it is boiled wheat berries (about 2 hours of cooking) with chopped walnuts and honey (add honey when wheat berries are not warm any more) mixed together, simple yet delectable. There are variations of this dish and may include different nuts, extra milk and raisins. Some add poppy seed to it.
