Why do Americans wear shoes in their homes? This must be a part of American culture but it seems so strange and lacking any sense and logic to me.
Shoes collect all sorts of things:
– dust from the street
– particles of dog and cat excrements
Think of it, if you have a crawling baby on your carpet, or young children who spend a lot of time playing on the floor, do you really think it is that cool to let people walk on that same carpet in their shoes that were who knows where… All the dust you bring on your shoes stays in the carpet, or if you have a wooden floor you are likely to breathe it in. Last but not least, how comfortable is that to be wearing shoes entire day without taking them off to relax your feet. Some even wear their shoes in their bedroom. I am definitely asking my guests to take their shoes off before they enter my house. At worst, they are entitled to consider my customs strange because I am a stranger after all.
