I came upon this book and I loved it. It is called “The Quiltmaker’s Journey”. It is a picture book with lovely illustrations, which is always someting I am very particular about, but what’s even more important, it is written beautifully. I adore a poetic language of this book and I am head over heels about the message it sends. In short, this is a story about a young wealthy lady who has anything she can dream of, she is beyond rich. And yet, she is not happy, she feels there is someting missing in her life. She lives in a town of rich people who put a tall wall to protect the town from the outside world. Our heroine ventures outside to see for herself what that outside world has to offer and discovers that it is not monsters or dragons but the poverty that inhabits the land. She is so stricken by it that she decides to make use of her money but that she is not allowed by the wealthy elders of the town. She must leave the town and never return and cannot take her riches with her. So she sets out for the outside world with a single thought, she knows she has something to offer to this world, she knows she has some gift and yet she still doesn’t know what that could be. Eventually, she discovers what it is, she commences to sew beautiful quilts for the ones in need. Not only the quilts are to be warm, they must be beautiful.
The whole story is beautiful and magical and symbolic but there is one particular part that SPEAKS TO ME. When I am reading about her knowing inside her heart that she has something special to offer to others, knowing there is some gift to be discovered, I feel the same sort of knowing in my heart. I sense there is someting overflowing my heart, almost getting ready to come out and be utilized. I conceive there is someting beautiful awaiting to be uneathed and while it is exciting to not to know what that is, it is at the same time making me impatient to find out. As the new year just started to unfold a few days ago, I feel it is going to come to happen within this year. I am writing these words and getting excited and delighted about it.
